Spalduuic, Spaldewick (11th century); Spaldewic (11th-12th century), Spaldwick (Modern)

Spaldwick is a village of charming old houses beside the Ellington brook which is crossed by a 15th century bridge. On the green is a fragment of a medieval cross. The George Inn is notable for its wall paintings dating from the 17th century. Manor Farm, Beech House and Ivy House are of 17th century dating. The Limes is Georgian. There are ancient entrenchments at Danefield.

The splendid church has a Decorated tower and spire and a fine Norman north doorway. The Early English font, 16th century screen, old parish  chest and three sundials should be noticed.

Spaldwick is one of the parishes of the District of Huntingdonshire, whose administrative centre is Huntingdon, the other principle towns being St Ives home of the Chapel on the Bridge, St Neots the largest town in the County of Cambridgeshire, the Roman town of Godmanchester and Ramsey site of the former Abbey.

St Ives Carnival

We all had a great day at St Ives Carnival yesterday. The parade from the town centre was very well attended and it took ages for the many floats to pass by on their way to the park. During the afternoon the entertainments were great culminating with the talented Chloe and the Huntingdon Concert Band. The day ended with a fabulous Firework display.

The organisers and their numerous helpers should be proud of their enthusiasm and achievement in putting on a brilliant show.

If you missed yesterday then you really did miss out but you can make it up to yourself and attend the Music Festival in the park today from noon until around nine this evening.

Don't forget it's the Huntingdon Carnival in a few weeks too
